Every hospital, ambulance branch, pharmacy, GP, dental and allied-health site in Victoria
that we can source and verify — on one map, with live emergency and news layers over the top.
The map opens on the public backbone so it
stays readable. Turn on the GP, Pharmacy, Dental, Allied,
Diagnostics or Natural chips to bring in the rest.
What's in it
1Public health backbone —
– sites: public hospital campuses and their emergency departments, Ambulance
Victoria branches, community and Aboriginal health services, public dental, plus private
hospitals as a deliberate contrast layer.
2Primary care & pharmacy —
– sites: GPs and medical centres, dental, and every one of Victoria's
– registered pharmacies.
3Diagnostics & allied health —
– sites: physio, optometry, podiatry, audiology and psychology; radiology and
pathology; and natural therapies as a separate layer.
4Performance & aged care
— not built. ED waiting times and elective surgery from the Victorian Agency for Health
Information, plus residential aged care.
How good is the data?
That question matters more than the map, so the app answers it
everywhere rather than hiding it:
- Pharmacies are complete. All – premises licensed to
operate as a pharmacy in Victoria, from the Victorian Pharmacy Authority register,
geocoded. The Commonwealth doesn't publish its PBS-approved supplier list, so the state
register is the best source — and for community pharmacy the two are near-identical.
- Ownership is inferred, and shows its working. Each facility is matched against the
Department of Health's register of – public health services by
website domain, operator and name. Every record stores how it was decided, and the
detail panel says so in plain English.
- GPs and Stage 3 are samples, not directories. They come from OpenStreetMap, which
holds roughly half of Victoria's general practices and much less of radiology and
pathology — with the gaps skewing rural. The Access tab marks those figures as upper
bounds, and Stage 3 is deliberately left out of it entirely.
- Access — straight-line distance from each of – localities to
the nearest public ED, GP or pharmacy. Real travel is always longer.
- Live layers — VicEmergency open data and public news feeds, refreshed on load.
An experiment, not an official source, and not a
service directory — it won't tell you if a clinic is open, bulk-bills or is taking patients.
Verify against health.vic or the service itself. In an emergency call 000.
